Field Papers is a tool built by Stamen Design that leverages OpenStreetMap to create atlases of your study area that you can print, take notes on, and then import into QGIS with just a photo. Ecology graduate student Nina Fontana will introduce the tool and demonstrate how she uses it for her research in eastern Europe. Dr. Michele Tobias will then lead participants in a hands-on exercise to use the tool to annotate maps of Davis and import them into QGIS. Field Papers is a tool that’s applicable to both social science and natural science research. This workshop is run by DataLab’s Spatial Science research cluster #MaptimeDavis series.
