DESCRIPTION
This workshop, taught by DataLab’s geospatial specialist Dr. Michele Tobias, provides an introduction to SQL for working with spatial data. We’ll use a graphical user interface (GUI) and explore examples of common analysis processes specific for handling spatial data.

After this workshop learners should be able to:
– execute base SQL commands
– explain basic relational database concepts
– identify the unique fields required to work with spatial data in a relational database
– use common spatial SQL commands, such as spatial joining

PREREQUISITES & TARGET LEARNERS: Come with SpatiaLite and QGIS installed and working on your laptop. An introductory understanding of GIS and SQL is recommended, but not required. While not mandatory, if you are new to SQL we encourage you to register for the Introduction to SQL workshop on November 6th.

This workshop is open to all members of the UC Davis community (students, postdocs, faculty, staff). DSI Affiliates receive priority registration. You will receive a confirmation once you are accepeted into the workshop.
