Description: The Hood Canal in Washington State has suffered from poor environmental conditions affecting local tribes and communities. The Hood Canal Coordinating Council (HCCC) is the Lead Entity responsible for the coordination of salmon restoration and protection projects in the Hood Canal action area. In support of this effort, a collaborative team came together to develop a web mapping application to visually display the results of research and direct prioritization of conservation efforts in the Hood Canal and the result of this collaborative effort is the HC-LAP Tool.

This presentation will demonstrate the web mapping application and discuss, how the application addresses the conservation goals of HCCC. Time and interest permitting, we will also discuss the underlying architecture of the application. See a live demo of the HC-LAP tool, which incorporates development tools such as node package manager (npm), the reactive component web framework, Vue and its supporting command line interface (CLI). The application is built with web standards HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The data and services are hosted in ArcGIS Online.

Learning Objectives: Participants will get a deeper understanding of how technical tools like web maps can be used to support the needs of local communities and conservation goals. Participants will also learn about the technical considerations for building a tool with stakeholders.
